Why Book Great Lakes Navy Graduation Car Service?
Flying in for Pass-in-Review? Call (866) 666-0112 or check real-time rates and book online. Airport pickups, early-morning hotel rides and liberty day service.
Quick Answer: Great Lakes Navy graduation car service takes your family from O’Hare or Midway to your hotel, gets you to Recruit Training Command before the 6:30 a.m. gate opening on graduation morning, and covers liberty day once the ceremony ends around 10:30 a.m. Most families fly in the day before, stay near North Chicago, and book an SUV that fits the whole group plus their new Sailor. Always confirm current guest rules on the Navy’s official graduation page.
Great Lakes Navy graduation car service lets families focus on the moment they’ve waited nine weeks for, not on rental car counters, unfamiliar roads or a 5 a.m. drive to a military base. Every enlisted Sailor in the U.S. Navy starts at Recruit Training Command in North Chicago, so every week families from across the country land at Chicago’s airports for Pass-in-Review.
Graduation morning runs on a tight clock. The gates open early, guests have to be seated before the ceremony starts, and traffic at the base builds fast. A local chauffeur who knows the area is the easiest way to arrive calm and on time.
As a Chicago limo service with offices in Lake Forest and Northbrook, just minutes from Naval Station Great Lakes, we drive graduation families year-round. Here’s how to plan the trip.
Level Up Limo is a private transportation company and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the U.S. Navy. The Navy does not endorse any transportation provider.
Graduation Basics Every Family Should Know
Where and when
Pass-in-Review takes place at Recruit Training Command at Naval Station Great Lakes in North Chicago, Illinois. It is the Navy’s only boot camp. Graduations are held weekly, and recent 2026 ceremonies have been held on Thursdays. Your recruit’s letter home confirms your exact date.
The morning schedule
According to the Navy’s graduation page, RTC’s gate opens to guests at 6:30 a.m., all guests must be seated by 9:00 a.m., and the ceremony concludes around 10:30 a.m. Expect heavy traffic at the gate as families arrive at the same time.
Guest limits and registration
The number of guests depends on the size of the training group, and is typically 3–4. Guest names must be submitted through the Navy’s ticketing process the Friday before graduation. Late names can’t get base access. Check the official Recruit Training Command graduation page for current rules, check-in steps and Recruit Family Welcome Center hours.
Your Sailor’s next steps
Liberty rules and departure times depend on your Sailor’s orders. Sailors heading to training at Great Lakes may transfer right after graduation, while those going out of state often leave the next day. Build your ride plan with some flexibility.
How Far Is Great Lakes From the Airports?
Naval Station Great Lakes sits in North Chicago, between Lake Forest and Waukegan. Approximate drive times:
- O’Hare International (ORD): about 40–55 minutes
- Midway International (MDW): about 60–80 minutes
- Downtown Chicago: about 50–70 minutes
Early-morning roads are lighter, while weekday rush hour on I-94 and I-294 can add 20–30 minutes. For most families, O’Hare is the closest and most convenient airport, with the most flight options.
A Sample Graduation Trip
The day before graduation
- Morning or midday: Fly into O’Hare or Midway. Your chauffeur tracks your flight and meets you at baggage claim. See where to meet your driver at O’Hare.
- Afternoon: Check in to your hotel near the base.
- Afternoon or evening: Complete any check-in steps the Navy requires at the Recruit Family Welcome Center during its posted hours, so graduation morning goes smoothly.
Graduation morning
- 5:45–6:00 a.m.: Pickup at your hotel.
- 6:15–6:30 a.m.: Arrive at RTC as the gate opens, dropped off at the designated guest arrival point under current base rules.
- 9:00 a.m.: Pass-in-Review begins.
- 10:30 a.m.: The ceremony ends and you reunite with your new Sailor.
Liberty day
Depending on your Sailor’s liberty rules, many families spend the rest of the day nearby with a celebration lunch, time in downtown Lake Forest or Libertyville, or a quiet afternoon at the hotel. An hourly chauffeur booking keeps a vehicle and driver with you all day, so you can move between stops easily.
Heading home
The next morning, or whenever your Sailor departs, we take you back to the airport. We watch your flight and time the drive around traffic.
Where to Stay
Families usually stay close to the base to keep graduation morning short. Common choices include hotels in North Chicago, Waukegan and Gurnee, plus quieter options in Lake Forest, Libertyville, Vernon Hills and Mundelein. Hotels near the base fill quickly on graduation weeks, so book your room as soon as you have the date.
If you’d rather stay downtown and make a Chicago trip of it, plan for a longer, earlier ride on graduation morning. Our Chicago vacation travel guide covers hotels and sights.
Why Families Choose a Chauffeur Over Other Options
No rental car for a two-day trip
Renting a car means shuttle buses, counters, fuel and navigating base traffic before dawn. A chauffeur meets you at the airport and handles every drive.
Reliable at 5:45 a.m.
Rideshare availability near the base before sunrise can be unpredictable, and graduation morning is the one time you can’t afford a late car. A pre-booked pickup is confirmed the day before.
Room for everyone
Families of 4–5, plus your new Sailor and luggage, fit comfortably in a luxury SUV. A single rideshare often can’t handle the whole group.
Flight tracking both ways
We track your arrival and departure flights and adjust pickup times for delays. See what happens when your flight is delayed.
Choosing the Right Vehicle
Families of up to 6: Cadillac Escalade
The most popular choice, with room for the whole family, your Sailor and luggage. It’s also comfortable for the early-morning drive.
Extended family groups: Sprinter
When grandparents, siblings and friends travel together, including relatives who’ll celebrate afterward even if guest limits keep them out of the ceremony, a Sprinter seats up to 14 and keeps everyone together.
A special celebration: S-Class
For a milestone lunch or dinner with your new Sailor, our Mercedes S-Class adds a special touch. See the full fleet.
Traveling with young children? Request car seats when you book. Our family airport rides guide covers what to expect.
How Much Does Great Lakes Navy Graduation Car Service Cost?
Most families book a mix of point-to-point and hourly service:
- Airport to hotel: A flat point-to-point rate based on the airport and hotel location.
- Graduation morning: A short point-to-point ride from a nearby hotel to the base.
- Liberty day: An hourly booking for lunches, errands and celebrations.
- Hotel to airport: A flat rate for the return trip.
Your total depends on the vehicle, the airport and how many rides you need. Every rate is confirmed upfront, with no surge pricing. See live pricing on our real-time rates page, or call dispatch for a full graduation-weekend quote.
