Quick answer: In winter, leave 30 to 45 minutes earlier than you would in July for a flight out of O’Hare or Midway, and book an SUV — clearance, all-wheel drive and room for bulky coats matter more than they do in summer. Our price doesn’t change in a storm: the rate is set by distance and vehicle, so a snowy Monday at 5 a.m. costs the same as a clear Tuesday at noon. We track every flight, adjust pickups for delays and cancellations, and dispatch runs 24/7 from Northbrook. Rates are approximate — call dispatch for an exact quote.

When to Leave in Winter
| Flight | Normal pickup | Winter pickup | Active snow |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6 a.m. domestic, North Shore | ~3:15 a.m. | ~2:45 a.m. | ~2:30 a.m. |
| 8 a.m. domestic, downtown | ~5:15 a.m. | ~4:45 a.m. | ~4:30 a.m. |
| 11 a.m. domestic, west suburbs | ~8:00 a.m. | ~7:30 a.m. | ~7:00 a.m. |
| Noon international | ~8:15 a.m. | ~7:45 a.m. | ~7:15 a.m. |
| 5 p.m. domestic | ~1:45 p.m. | ~1:15 p.m. | ~1:00 p.m. |
The airport, not the road, is the bigger variable. On a snow morning the drive might add fifteen minutes while the terminal adds an hour — deicing queues, longer security lines and gate changes. Build the buffer at the airport end.
Why an SUV in Winter
| Winter factor | Why the SUV handles it |
|---|---|
| Unplowed side streets and driveways | Ground clearance — most North Shore and suburban streets aren’t cleared at 4 a.m. |
| Snow-covered roads before the plows | All-wheel-drive-capable SUVs |
| Winter coats, boots and hats | Bulky clothing takes real cabin space |
| Pre-dawn cold | The vehicle is warm before you step outside |
| Ski bags and holiday luggage | Cargo room a sedan doesn’t have |
A luxury SUV starts at $140 for the first 16 miles and a premium SUV at $165 — see our O’Hare rate guide. From November through March, many of our regular clients simply book the SUV every time.
What We Do Differently on a Snow Day
- We watch the forecast the night before and call if the pickup time should move earlier
- Chauffeurs are dispatched earlier so the vehicle is at your door, warm, before you need it
- We plan around the usual choke points — the Edens and I-190 stack up first, and there are better approaches when they do
- Dispatch is staffed 24/7 by people, which matters most on the morning everyone’s plans change at once
- No surge. The rate you booked in October is the rate you pay in a January storm
Storm in the forecast? We’ll adjust the pickup with you. The price stays the same.

Delays, Cancellations and Arrivals
| Situation | What happens |
|---|---|
| Your departure is delayed | Call or text dispatch and we’ll move the pickup rather than leaving you at the gate for hours |
| Your departure is cancelled | Tell us as soon as you know and we’ll rebook for the new flight |
| Your arrival is delayed | We track the flight and adjust the pickup automatically |
| You’re diverted or rerouted | Call dispatch with the new flight and we’ll meet it |
| Wait time past the included window | {{WAIT_POLICY}} |
The Winter Travel Calendar
| Period | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Thanksgiving week | The Wednesday before is one of the heaviest airport days of the year — book early |
| Mid to late December | Holiday travel and corporate trips overlap; SUVs fill first |
| The days after New Year’s | Heavy return traffic into both airports |
| January and February | The snowiest stretch — winter pickup times apply most mornings |
| School winter and spring breaks | Family travel with ski gear and extra bags |
On holiday weeks it’s availability that runs out, not the price — see our hourly rates guide if your trip includes more than the airport run.
O’Hare or Midway in Bad Weather?
Both airports deice and both delay. The practical difference is the drive: from the North Shore and the northwest suburbs, O’Hare is far closer, while Midway is the shorter run from downtown and the south and west suburbs. If your airline flies from both, the closer airport means less time on the road in the weather. See O’Hare limo service and Midway limo service.
Winter Checklist
- Book the SUV, and tell dispatch how many bags
- Give us your flight number so the pickup tracks it
- Check your airline’s app the night before and the morning of
- Tell us if your street or driveway isn’t plowed so we plan the pickup point
- Keep phones charged — your chauffeur texts before arrival
- Keep documents and medication in a carry-on
Why Your Quote May Be Higher or Lower
Rates on this page are approximate. Child seats, extra stops, longer wait time, distance past the first 16 miles, vehicle class and oversized luggage all move the final number — but weather never does. For an exact price, point-to-point or hourly, call our 24/7 dispatch line at (866) 666-0112. A 20% gratuity is added to every ride.
