Where Does McCormick Place Pickup and Drop-Off Happen?
Working a show at McCormick Place? Call (866) 666-0112 or check real-time rates and book online. Private car and Sprinter service for attendees and exhibitors, 24/7.
Quick Answer: McCormick Place pickup and drop-off depends on which building your show is in. Private cars, limos and charters use designated gates, separate from taxi and rideshare zones: Gate 25 at the South Building and Gate 38 at Lakeside Center, with the West Building served along Indiana Avenue near Gate 40. Tell your chauffeur your hall and exhibit level, arrive 30–45 minutes before your first meeting, and agree on a pickup gate for the end of the day before the doors open.
McCormick Place pickup and drop-off is where many convention days go wrong. North America’s largest convention center spreads across four connected buildings, with dozens of numbered gates, several traffic circles and separate curbs for hotel shuttles, taxis, rideshare and private cars. On a big show day, tens of thousands of attendees arrive in the same two hours and leave in the same one.
The biggest mistake is getting dropped at the wrong building. Walking from the West Building to Lakeside Center can take 15 minutes or more, which is the difference between on time and late for a booth meeting.
As a Chicago limo service that runs convention transportation throughout the year, we plan McCormick Place rides building by building. Here’s how to get in and out efficiently.
For convention-wide group shuttles and Sprinter service, see our McCormick Place Sprinter limo page.
The McCormick Place Campus at a Glance
Four buildings, one campus
McCormick Place’s main address is 2301 S. King Drive, just south of downtown. The campus includes:
- South Building: connected to the North Building by the Grand Concourse.
- North Building: accessed mainly through the South Building’s transportation areas.
- West Building: on the west side of the campus along Indiana Avenue.
- Lakeside Center: on the lakefront, east of DuSable Lake Shore Drive.
Wintrust Arena sits just north of the West Building, and the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place is part of the campus on King Drive.
Why the building matters
Each building has its own gates for each type of vehicle. Your show’s exhibit hall, registration area and meeting rooms decide which gate you should use. Check your show’s floor plan before the event, and share your hall number with your chauffeur.
Pickup and Drop-Off Gates by Building
Gate assignments come from McCormick Place’s official transportation maps. Shows can change traffic patterns, so always confirm on your show’s transportation page and the official McCormick Place website.
South and North Buildings
- Gate 25: hotel shuttles, limos and private charters, plus accessible drop-off and pickup.
- Gate 4 (McCormick Square): taxi drop-off and pickup, plus accessible drop-off and pickup.
- Gate 4.5: rideshare.
- Gates 1–3: hotel shuttles.
West Building
- Gate 40 area on Indiana Avenue: taxi drop-off and pickup, accessible drop-off and pickup, and rideshare, with a designated rideshare curb near Gate 40.5.
Your chauffeur will confirm the best private-car spot near the West Building entrance for your show’s traffic plan.
Lakeside Center
- Gate 38: limos, private charters and rideshare.
- Gate 30: taxi drop-off and pickup, plus accessible drop-off and pickup.
- Gates 31–34: hotel shuttles.
Transit options
McCormick Place also has a Metra station at the South Building and CTA bus service at the South and West Buildings. Some shows offer free or discounted Metra rides, so check your show’s attendee information.
Why Private Car Pickup Is Faster on Show Days
Separate curbs from taxis and rideshare
The biggest advantage of a private car is using the limo and charter gates instead of the busiest taxi and rideshare zones. At closing time, taxi lines can stretch and rideshare pickup areas fill with people searching for their cars.
A car that’s already there
Your chauffeur stages nearby and moves into position when you text, so there’s no wait for an app to match you with a driver who’s stuck in convention traffic.
No surge at closing time
When the show floor closes, rideshare demand spikes. A pre-booked rate stays the same.
Help with materials
Chauffeurs help load samples, presentation materials and personal bags. Heavy freight and booth materials still move through your show’s official freight contractor.
Planning Show-Day Timing
Morning arrivals
The heaviest arrival window is usually 30–90 minutes before the show floor opens. Arrive 30–45 minutes before your first meeting to allow time for security, badge scanning and the walk to your hall.
Drive times to McCormick Place
- Downtown and Streeterville hotels: about 10–20 minutes
- Midway Airport: about 25–50 minutes
- O’Hare Airport: about 35–70 minutes
- Northbrook and Glenview: about 40–60 minutes
- Lake Forest: about 55–80 minutes
Evening departures
The busiest exit is the 30 minutes after the show floor closes. Leave a few minutes early, or wait 20 minutes and let the crowd clear. Your chauffeur can wait either way.
Evening events
Many shows have receptions and client dinners downtown. An hourly booking keeps your car with you from the show floor to dinner and back to the hotel.
Exhibitor Transportation: Moving Your Booth Team
Daily booth-team shuttles
Exhibitors often need to move a team of 6–14 from one hotel to the show every morning and back every evening. A dedicated Executive Sprinter or Sprinter shuttle runs the same schedule each day, so no one is left hunting for a ride.
Setup and teardown days
Move-in and move-out days often start earlier and run later than show days. Build separate schedules for those days, and let us know about early or late hours.
Executives and client meetings
Company leaders often split time between the booth, off-site meetings and client dinners. A sedan or SUV on an as-directed basis keeps them flexible. See our as-directed chauffeur service guide and business meeting car service guide.
One contact for all of it
Exhibit managers and executive assistants can book every ride, from airport arrivals to daily shuttles and client dinners, through one account. See our executive assistant booking guide.
Getting to and From the Airports
Arrivals
Many attendees fly into O’Hare or Midway and go straight to the show. Your chauffeur tracks your flight and meets you at baggage claim. See our O’Hare limo service and Midway limo service.
Departures
On the last day, many attendees leave directly from the show floor for the airport. Tell us your flight time and building, and we’ll plan the pickup around closing-time traffic. For hotel departures, see our Chicago hotel to O’Hare and Midway guide.
Groups
Teams arriving together can share an SUV or Sprinter. See our O’Hare group transportation guide.
Choosing the Right Vehicle
Sedan or S-Class
For one to three executives, a sedan or Mercedes S-Class is quiet and professional.
Cadillac Escalade
For up to 6 attendees with bags and presentation materials. See our Chicago Escalade limo guide.
Executive Sprinter
For booth teams and client groups of up to 14. Captain’s chairs make the ride easy to work in.
Coaches for larger groups
For company-wide movements of 30 or more, see our charter bus rental and our large event limo planning guide. Browse the full fleet.

- Daily shuttles: A set schedule each morning and evening for booth teams.
- Hourly or as-directed: For executives with meetings, dinners and multiple stops.
Your rate depends on the vehicle, schedule and number of days. Every rate is confirmed upfront, with no surge pricing at closing time. See live pricing on our real-time rates page, or call dispatch for a show-week quote.
